4150 develops greater hardness than 4140 while retaining the toughness and through-hardening benefits of the 41XX alloy family.

Because machining and final properties depend heavily on supply condition, include hardness, mechanical range, size, and heat-treatment status.

Purchase to the controlling ASTM, SAE, AMS, or customer specification. Section size, supply condition, mechanical properties, surface limits, testing, and heat/lot traceability can change the acceptable material and processing route.
