Hot Rolling for Carbon & Alloy Steel Bar
Hot rolling reduces and shapes steel above its recrystallization temperature, allowing substantial section changes without the cold-worked properties of a finished bar.
The as-rolled product carries mill scale and wider dimensional tolerance than cold-finished bar. It is commonly used as forging stock, machining stock, or feedstock for heat treatment and further finishing.
Process Benefits
- Broad grade and section availability
- Economical production stock
- Suitable for forging and machining
- Compatible with further finishing
Common Applications
- Forged components
- Heavy machinery
- Automotive parts
- General manufacturing and fabrication
The process route is determined by the starting grade and condition, section size, finished dimensions or mechanical properties, surface limits, testing, quantity, and governing specification.
