Steel Bar Processing

Quenching & Tempering Services

Heat treatment used to develop a specified hardness or mechanical-property range while retaining the toughness required in service.

Quenching & Tempering for Carbon & Alloy Steel Bar

Steel is austenitized and quenched at a controlled rate to develop hardness, then tempered to establish the required balance of tensile strength, yield strength, toughness, and ductility.

Grade, section size, hardenability, quench medium, straightness, test location, and final property range all affect the treatment plan.

Process Benefits

  • Specified strength and hardness range
  • Controlled toughness and ductility
  • Through-section property development
  • Improved wear and fatigue performance

Common Applications

  • Gears and shafts
  • Axles and pins
  • Heavy-equipment components
  • High-load machine parts

The process route is determined by the starting grade and condition, section size, finished dimensions or mechanical properties, surface limits, testing, quantity, and governing specification.
