1117 Round Bar: Material Profile

Controlled sulfur improves chip formation and machining productivity compared with plain low-carbon grades.

The grade is often machined first and then carburized or surface hardened.

Purchase to the controlling ASTM, SAE, AMS, or customer specification. Section size, supply condition, mechanical properties, surface limits, testing, and heat/lot traceability can change the acceptable material and processing route.
