1020 combines ductility, machinability, and moderate strength for general industrial use.
Hot-rolled and cold-finished conditions provide different tolerances and surfaces, so include the intended manufacturing route on the RFQ.
Purchase to the controlling ASTM, SAE, AMS, or customer specification. Section size, supply condition, mechanical properties, surface limits, testing, and heat/lot traceability can change the acceptable material and processing route.
