1055 provides higher carbon content and hardening response for components subject to repeated loading or abrasive service.

The required heat treatment, hardness range, and mechanical properties should be stated with the order.

Purchase to the controlling ASTM, SAE, AMS, or customer specification. Section size, supply condition, mechanical properties, surface limits, testing, and heat/lot traceability can change the acceptable material and processing route.
