The Specification Controls the Order
An aerospace alloy designation does not establish the complete requirement. The inquiry must identify the exact AMS or customer specification, applicable revision, grade, melt practice, condition, size, mechanical properties, testing, traceability, marking, certification, and approved-source restrictions.
Material source and processing route are reviewed before quotation. Compliance and certification apply only to the specific order and controlling documents.
Order Details
- AMS or customer specification
- Grade and heat-treatment condition
- Diameter, tolerance, straightness, and surface
- Quantity, lengths, and delivery schedule
Quality Documentation
- Mill test reports and heat traceability
- Mechanical and chemical test results
- Nondestructive testing when specified
- Required certifications and marking
Processing for Precision Requirements
Depending on the specification, round bar may require annealing, quench and temper, cold finishing, turning, polishing, centerless grinding, straightening, precision cutting, or nondestructive examination. Each operation must preserve the applicable material, processor, and end-use approvals.
